Professor Durgesh Tripathi, an internationally renowned solar physicist, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award by Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. It is one of the world’s highest honours for established researchers.

Prof. Tripathi currently serves at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, where his research focuses on the Sun’s atmosphere, solar eruptions, magnetic fields, and space weather. His work combines advanced observations with theoretical modelling to better understand the dynamic processes occurring on our nearest star.

His research has helped scientists improve their understanding of how solar activity influences the Earth and the broader heliosphere. This knowledge is becoming increasingly important as satellites, communication networks, navigation systems, and future human space missions become more dependent on accurate space-weather forecasting.
