India’s space ambitions are no longer limited to rockets and satellites. With missions such as Chandrayaan, Aditya-L1, and the planned Bharatiya Antariksh Station, the country is building an innovation ecosystem that requires thousands of researchers, AI experts, climate scientists, engineers, and problem-solvers.
To identify and nurture this talent, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched the third edition of the Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon (BAH) 2026. This is a national innovation challenge designed to crowdsource breakthrough solutions for some of India’s most pressing space and Earth-observation problems. The initiative is being powered by Hack2Skill.

Hackathon challenges inspired by India’s space missions:
This year’s competition features 15 challenge statements sourced from real scientific domains. They include:
- AI-powered Digital Twin of India’s Climate
- Solar flare forecasting using data from the Aditya-L1 mission
- Detection of subsurface ice near the Moon’s south pole using data from Chandrayaan-2
- Generative AI for cloud removal from satellite imagery
- Exoplanet detection from noisy astronomical datasets
- Urban heat island mitigation through AI and machine learning
- Satellite image enhancement and retrieval systems
- Air-quality and environmental intelligence solutions
- Smart agriculture and climate-resilience technologies
These are not hypothetical exercises. Many are directly connected to India’s future capabilities in climate intelligence, planetary exploration, satellite applications, and scientific computing.

The bigger innovation story
India’s innovation future will depend increasingly on solving complex challenges involving climate change, satellite intelligence, space exploration, AI, and advanced analytics.
Hackathons like BAH 2026 are becoming innovation laboratories where students move beyond classroom learning and contribute to nationally significant missions. The initiative also demonstrates how organisations can leverage open innovation models to discover breakthrough ideas from young researchers and engineers.
How to apply
Interested students can register through the official Hack2Skill event portal: Bharatiya Antariksh Hackathon 2026 Registration Portal
With India’s space sector opening up to startups, private launch companies, AI-driven satellite analytics firms, and deep-tech innovators, the next breakthrough may come from a student team participating in this very hackathon.
