The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has announced recruitment for multiple scientific positions at the newly established Centre for Research Management and Control of Haemoglobinopathies (CRMCH), New Chandrapur. This facility is operating under ICMR–National Institute of Immunohaematology (NIIH), Mumbai. The recruitment drive aims to strengthen India’s capabilities in research, diagnosis, and management of haemoglobin disorders such as thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

ICMR is recruiting for six scientific positions across three categories:
Scientist-C (Non-Medical):
- Number of vacancies: 1
- Pay Level: Level 11 (₹67,700–₹2,08,700)
- Qualification:
- Master’s degree in a biomedical science-related discipline from a recognized university, or
- Pharm-D degree recognized by UGC/PCI
- Essential Experience:
- Four years of relevant experience
- Desirable:
- PhD in biomedical sciences
- Experience in translational research, drug efficacy testing, humanized mouse models, organoids, and related advanced research platforms.
Scientist-B (Medical):
- Number of vacancies: 2
- Pay Level: Level 10 (₹56,100–₹1,77,500)
- Qualification:
- MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by NMC/MCI
- Desirable:
- Clinical research experience
- Experience managing patients with haemoglobinopathies.
Scientist-B (Non-Medical):
- Number of vacancies: 3
- Pay Level: Level 10 (₹56,100–₹1,77,500)
- Qualification:
- Master’s degree in a biomedical science-related field, or
- Pharm-D degree recognized by UGC/PCI
- Desirable expertise includes:
- Microbiology
- Immunology and immunogenetics
- Molecular biology
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
- Multi-omics research
- Biochemistry.
Age limit:
ICMR has prescribed the following upper age limits:
- Scientist-C: 40 years
- Scientist-B: 35 years
Age relaxation will be available according to Government of India norms, with additional flexibility for exceptionally meritorious candidates.
Selection process:
The recruitment process may involve:
- A computer-based test (CBT)
- Interview
- Or a combination of both
According to ICMR, the CBT will assess candidates’ understanding of research methods and will be qualifying in nature, requiring a minimum score equivalent to the 75th percentile.
Shortlisting may also be based on higher qualifications and relevant research experience if applications are received in large numbers.
